Are you feeling lost when working with client who have experienced complex trauma? When clients present with chronic suicidality and/or parasuicidality, the EMDR process can be challenging. This program will address those challenges when working with this population and offer specific concepts, tools and resources to use in the extended history taking and preparation of EMDR. These tools are geared toward helping the clinician and clients collaboratively develop safety, trust and affect regulation. This program will discuss psychoeducation that helps the client develop self-compassion and understanding of their presenting symptoms. This program will also include how to help the client understand how their current symptoms were likely an adaptation to maintain safety and connection. The use of an attachment map will be taught to increase client insight and compassion. Specific tools and resources will be taught for clinicians to utilize in phase 2, Preparation phase. These resources are designed to help the client develop affect tolerance and somatic awareness of regulation. Â
Working with clients who have experienced complex trauma can be challenging. When a client has chronic suicidality or parasuicidality it can be necessary to extend the first 2 phases of the EMDR Therapy. By utilizing the trauma-informed principles, concepts and methods in addition to attachment mapping, this course will help clinicians understand some helpful tools for preparing these clients for the EMDR processing phase. This course focuses on strategies for slowing down the process of history taking and resourcing for clients who have experienced complex trauma. People who have experienced complex trauma often require more time spent on resourcing, particularly affect regulation and feeling safe in connection.  This is done by increased focus on developing context and therapist validation of experience.  This webinar will provide tools for deepening the client’s understanding of their answer and their  adaptations across continuums to stay safe, stay connected, or stay empowered in family of origin  environments through the use of an attachment map and somatic awareness building.
